The Punctuators

I went back and forth on whether to use Punctuaters or Punctuators. There is already a term Punctuator so I thought I could get more google hits with punctuaters. It just looks wrong though. I don’t know how accurate this is but I found a source that says this is because the suffix “ate” is Latin- based and these words will usually have the “or” ending/suffix. Example: dictate becomes dictator, not dictater. Another cool general rule: if it ends in “tor” you can usually replace it with “tion” with no problem. Not always true with “ter.” Example: alligator/alligation (an unfounded claim that someone is an alligator when clearly they are a crocodile.)
